5-10 Troubleshooting Guide

5.5 Configured an EMM-E6 or NBR Series Bridge for Routing, but It Doesn’t Work

The EMM-E6 or NBR device needs an 8Mb memory upgrade for it to function as a router.

Has a memory upgrade been installed to support routing?

An 8Mb memory upgrade is needed. Contact Cabletron Systems Sales for information about purchasing the correct

memory upgrade needed for your EMM-E6 or NBR device.

Make sure the memory upgrade was installed correctly. Refer to the device documentation for details.

Is the upgrade installed correctly?

Correct as necessary. Then check to see if the EMM-E6 or NBR device is routing.

Is there still a problem with the device routing?

Congratulations, the problem is solved.

Initialize the router. (For example, access the Local Management application in the EMM-E6 or NBR device and select

INITIALIZE in the Router Setup screen.)

Is the EMM-E6 or NBR device routing?

For IP routing, each interface in use must be on a different IP network or subnet. For example, if interfaces A, B, and C

are being used, the following is a valid configuration. Let’s assume that the network is 134.141.0.0 and the mask is

255.255.255.0. The possible IP address for each interface could be:

Interface A: 134.141.1.1

Interface B: 134.141.2.1

Interface C: 134.141.3.1

For IPX routing, each interface in use must be given different IPX network numbers.

Are the interface configurations correct?

Clear the NVRAM and reconfigure the EMM-E6 or NBR device. Refer to the following note.

NOTE: When clearing NVRAM, all user entered parameters are erased and replaced with the default parameters.

For instructions on how to clear NVRAM, refer to the device documentation for details.

Initialize the router.

Is there still a problem with the device routing?

Congratulations, the problem is solved.

Is routing enabled at both the system and port levels.

Configure accordingly so that both system and port levels are enabled.

Is the EMM-E6 or NBR device routing?

Clear the NVRAM and reconfigure the EMM-E6 or NBR router. Refer to the following note.

NOTE: When clearing NVRAM, all user entered parameters are erased and replaced with the default

parameters.

After reconfiguring the EMM-E6 or NBR, is it routing?

Call Cabletron Technical Support.
